Legal Aid DC is proud to announce that starting in 2025, all interns will have the opportunity to receive scholarships. This follows the establishment of the Lee Horton Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Public Interest Lawyers in 2023, which allowed Legal Aid to provide funding for selected summer law school interns. “Not all students can afford to do unpaid internships,” said Dorothy Scheeline, Director of People & Culture for Legal Aid DC. “We want our internships to be accessible to any student interested in pursuing a career in public interest law.”

Law students and undergraduates interning in the fall or spring semesters will receive scholarships of $2,500. Students have the option of waiving payment if they are precluded from receiving pay while obtaining course credit.

Summer interns will be paid $6,125 through a combination of external and Legal Aid DC scholarships, including, for law students, the Lee Horton Memorial Scholarship.
