Housing Law
Ricky McComb
It was a shock when Ricky McComb discovered he owed his landlord $20,000—especially since he was receiving rental assistance. Unsure of what had gone wrong and facing the prospect of eviction, Mr. McComb turned to Legal Aid DC for support. With help from one of Legal Aid’s housing attorneys, Mr. McComb discovered that a clerical error in the DC Department of Human Services had meant that his rental assistance was being applied to an apartment he had never lived in. After a year of unravelling the administrative issues that had ensnared his housing assistance, Mr. McComb was able to move into a safer apartment with a corrected voucher and a clean slate.
