Tamara Weatherly* was no stranger to fighting with the DC Department of Human Services (DHS) for the benefits her family needed. But when she was completely locked out of her Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) benefits in 2023, Ms. Weatherly struggled to get answers or a solution from the agency. After spending a year fighting with DHS, Ms. Weatherly reached out to Legal Aid DC for help. With support from Legal Aid’s Public Benefits Unit, Ms. Weatherly was able to recover over $11,000 in SNAP and other benefits that she was owed, ensuring she could continue to support her family. Ms. Weatherly now has reliable access to her monthly SNAP benefits, allowing her to focus on caring for her family and her future.
