Housing Law
Tamia Foster
Tamia Foster, a working single mother with two young children, came to Legal Aid DC when her landlord sued her. Her landlord was trying to evict her for running a business out of her home. Her “business,” it turns out, was selling candy bars to her neighbors as a fundraiser for her son’s football team. It may sound frivolous, but the case was no laughing matter to Ms. Foster. Eviction would mean not only the loss of her home, but also the loss of her federal housing subsidy, making it nearly impossible to house her family. Fortunately, with Legal Aid DC’s help, the case ended in a complete victory for Ms. Foster.
