The Impact

Legal Aid attorneys provide support in critical moments, when someone is at risk of losing their housing, public benefits, custody of their children, trying to protect themselves against domestic violence, or facing an immigration issue. For low-income residents who can't afford a private lawyer, guidance or representation from Legal Aid means they won't have to navigate the legal system alone.

Legal Aid relies on private donors to continue and expand our work, and the Making Justice Real Campaign accounts for about 30 percent of our annual budget. The wider legal community plays an important role in making justice real for our neighbors across the District.
