Johanna Schmidt is a Senior Staff Attorney in the Consumer Law Unit. Johanna represents homeowners facing foreclosure and consumers with debt collection matters in D.C. Superior Court.
Johanna joined Legal Aid DC in September 2022. Prior to joining Legal Aid DC, Johanna clerked for the Honorable Judge Julie H. Becker of D.C. Superior Court and the Honorable Judge Lynn Leibovitz of D.C. Superior Court. Prior to her clerkships, Johanna worked for two years at the D.C. Affordable Law Firm, where she primarily represented clients in family law and immigration matters.
Johanna received her LL.M. degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2019. She graduated with her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2017. While in law school, Johanna was a student attorney in the Community Justice Project clinic and served as an Executive Editor for the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law and Policy. Johanna received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Carleton College.
