Lisa Meehan is a Staff Attorney in the Public Benefits Unit. She represents clients in a wide range of public benefits matters including Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Medicare, and unemployment insurance.
Lisa graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in International Relations, Community Health, and Spanish.
Lisa initially joined Legal Aid DC in 2017 as a legal assistant in the Public Benefits Unit. She left Legal Aid to attend NYU School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholar and a student advocate in the Family Defense Clinic. While in law school, Lisa clerked for the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia and the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem. After graduating from law school, Lisa served as the Sinsheimer Fellow at Mobilization for Justice in New York, where she represented families seeking appropriate special education services. She returned to Legal Aid as a staff attorney in 2024.
