Stephanie Troyer is the Legal Director for the Direct Legal Services Program. Prior to her current position, she was a Supervising Attorney in Legal Aid DC's Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit for more than a decade. Stephanie has worked on the creation of several court-based and community outreach programs, including the Child Support Resource Center (CSRC) and Family Law Assistance Network (FLAN). She also established and managed Legal Aid's Immigrants' Rights Projects. Stephanie was a co-chair of the D.C. Bar’s Steering Committee for the Family Law Community and is a member of the D.C. Bar’s Judicial Evaluation Committee.
Stephanie was previously a Supervising Attorney in the Domestic Violence / Family Law Unit, where she focused on child custody, child support, paternity and domestic violence litigation. She oversaw Legal Aid DC’s participation in the Child Support Resource Center at the D.C. Superior Court, a community office providing same day advice and representation for litigants in the Paternity and Support Branch. Stephanie is co-chair of the D.C. Bar’s Steering Committee for the Family Law Section and a member of the D.C. Bar’s Judicial Evaluation Committee. She has worked on the D.C. Bar’s Family Law Task Force and the Superior Court’s Working Groups for Guardian ad Litem practice standards and Case Management Plan implementation.
Prior to joining Legal Aid DC in June 2007, Stephanie was an Assistant Public Defender in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 2009, she left Legal Aid DC for a brief stint as federal legislative counsel to a national reproductive rights organization. Stephanie was also a fellow with the Georgetown Women’s Law and Public Policy Fellowship Program.
Stephanie graduated with an A.B., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Georgetown University, where she was awarded high honors as a Government Major. She also received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
